Women's Healthcare Businesses & API to be sold by Viatris in India for $1.2 Billion
As a part of a $3.6 billion global divestiture drive to reduce debt, US-based pharmaceutical company Viatris, formerly known as Mylan, is selling its active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and women's healthcare businesses in India for a combined consideration of $1.2 billion.
While the women's healthcare business will be acquired by the Spanish company Insud Pharma, the API business will be sold to Secunderabad-based investment company IQuest Enterprises.
Indian Athlete Vithya Ramraj Wins Bronze in Women's 400m Hurdles at Asian Games
Indian athlete Vithya Ramraj secured a commendable bronze medal in the women's 400m hurdles at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. Despite facing tough competition, the 25-year-old athlete delivered a solid performance with a timing of 55.68 seconds.
The gold medal went to China's Jaidie Mo, who achieved a season-best time of 55.01 seconds, while Bahrain's Oluwakemi Mujidat Adekoya claimed the silver with a game record of 54.45 seconds.
Increasing Female Workforce Vital for India's $5 Trillion Goal
In a recent interview, the World Bank India chief emphasized the critical role of increasing female labour force participation in India's economic growth. The chief highlighted that this endeavour is a "low-hanging fruit" that could significantly contribute to India achieving its ambitious economic goals.
Currently, India's female labour force participation stands at around 25%, a figure significantly lower than the global average. To accelerate its economic growth and achieve its target of becoming a $5 trillion economy by 2028 and an advanced economy by 2047, India needs to sustain a growth rate of 8%.
Startup India & APIS to Organise Women Entrepreneurs Conference
Visakhapatnam will host a two-day State-level Conference for female entrepreneurs starting on October 5, 2023. The program is being organized by Startup India in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Innovation Society (APIS).
The program will be attended by nearly 150 registered entrepreneurs from a range of industries, including information technology, rural development, healthcare, and education. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Startup India has launched start-ups for women. This conference will serve as a promotional event for Startup India's program, and it has already been publicized in 9 states.
AWS Empowers Women-Led Startups
Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), has announced the first AWS Women's Demo Week.
This global event, which will be held from November 6 to 10, 2023, aims to link women-led businesses with investors, therefore closing the gender finance gap and empowering female entrepreneurs.
AWS Women's Demo Week will be held in 18 cities worldwide, including New York, London, So Paulo, and Lagos.
Asian Games 2023: Indian Women's Kabaddi Team Enters Finals
With a commanding 61-17 victory over Nepal, the Indian women's kabaddi team continued their unbeatable streak at the Asian Games and advanced to their fourth straight final.
