Neena Singh becomes Montgomery's first Indian-American Sikh Mayor

Neena Singh became the first Sikh and Indian American woman to be elected mayor of Montgomery Township, New Jersey, in a historic event. The historic occasion occurred last week during the Township Committee's restructuring meeting, during which Neena thanked fellow committee members for their unanimous support.
Neena Singh, a Montgomery resident for 24 years, was sworn in by Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman on January 4 and applauded the township for its commitment to breaking down barriers and adopting inclusive, transparent, and forward-thinking government. Neena, a former Deputy Mayor and Township Committeewoman, indicated that public safety and health are her top priorities.
Neena's dedication to public service extends beyond official roles, as seen by her active involvement with STAND Central NJ, a grassroots non-profit focused on voter engagement and empowerment. Congresswoman Watson Coleman praised Singh for being a fantastic leader who is profoundly concerned with fairness, economic development, and the well-being of all communities.
Deputy Mayor Vincent P. Barragan stated his pleasure in working with a diverse staff, while Indian-American State Senator Vin Gopal hailed Singh as a good role model for young South Asian women in New Jersey.
