Since Indian Sports will celebrate 100 years of hockey, the Hockey India League (HIL) is all set for a come-back. With the re-launch of HIL, 2024 shall mark a year-long celebration while marking the rich history of Indian hockey after a seven-year hiatus.
Recently, Hockey India has made an announcement regarding a grand celebration that is dedicated towards a century of remarkable achievements of hockey history. Beginning on December 28, 2024, HIL will feature 8 men’s teams alongside 4 women’s teams. It has revealed about the inaugural Women’s Hockey India League which will honour a journey that has inspired generations.
In addition, women’s tournament shall commence on January 12, 2025 while the men’s league shall continue till February 1, 2025. Women’s tournament is scheduled to conclude on January 26, 2025.
In an official statement, Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey stated, “As we begin celebrations for 100 years of Indian hockey, the relaunch of the Men’s Hockey India League and the inaugural Women’s Hockey India League signify a momentous occasion. This year-long celebration is a tribute to our remarkable journey and a testament to our enduring legacy.”
Moreover, Hockey India Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh added, “The centenary celebration of Indian hockey is a historic milestone that reflects our rich heritage and our vision for the future. We look forward to an unforgettable year of high-caliber hockey as we honour our past and build a brighter future for the sport in India.”
