Dutch Defeat India in Women's FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024 Final

The Indian women’s hockey team faced 2-7 defeat at the hands of Netherlands the Women’s FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024 finals. Jyoti Chhatri (20’) and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (23’) were goal scorers from the Indian side. Janneke van de Venne (2’, 14’), Bente van der Veldt (4’, 8’), Lana Kalse (11’, 27’), and Sosha Benninga (13’) put goals on Netherlands’ score sheet.
Hockey India has announced a cash award of INR Three Lakhs for each player in acknowledgement of their brilliant performance throughout FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024. The support staff of the team will be awarded with Rs 1.5 Lakhs each.
It was anybody’s game at the starting point. However, Netherlands found an early opening and Janneke van de Venne scored the match’s first goal in the second minute of the game. On the fourth minute Bente van der Veldt doubled the team’s score by smashing the ball into the goal. Netherlands continued to be in a dominant position here on.
A few minutes before half time Lana Kalse scored a powerful shot and brough Netherlands to a four-goal lead. Sosha Benninga and Janneke van de Venne added to India’s misery and added two more goals as the first half drew to a close. The score now was 6-0 in Netherlands’ favour.
Five minutes after the beginning of the second half, India scored their maiden goal as Jyoti Chhatri maneuverer the ball past goalkeeper, Kiki Gunneman. India put up a fight and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal scored another goal bringing the score to 6-2.
However, Netherlands shifted its strategy and Lana Kalse scored another goal, making the Dutch team’s score a comfortable seven against India’s two. The Indian side continued to strike hard however; goalkeeper Kiki Gunneman did not let the ball past her.
The match ended at 7-2 with Netherlands lifting the Women’s FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024 trophy.
