Brinda Somaya - Somaya and Kalappa Consultants

Brinda Somaya was born on 28 June 1949 is India’s most prominent women architects championing for “the architect as steward of the built and unbuilt environment.”

In 1978, Brinda established Somaya and Kalappa Consultants (SNK) in Mumbai and has since created a legacy spanning four decades in heritage conservation, contemporary design and socially responsive architecture.

Impactful Designs

Brinda’s largest and best-known project is the Rajabai Clock Tower and Library Building at the University of Mumbai.

She has also worked on the restoration of St. Thomas' Cathedral in Mumbai. She has conceived new construction projects, including the Tata Consultancy Services Banyan Park Campus, Bajaj Bhavan, a corporate headquarters and Nalanda International School in Vadodara, all of which advocate for natural light and a 'soft' intervention with the landscape, utilise sustainable materials and celebrate ecology of diverse landscapes.
