Women Empowerment training started at SKUAST-J

The Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Jammu, Division of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, started the 12th five-day training program on "Empowering (capacity building) of women through livestock farming."
Under the project "Capacity building of Farm Women through Livestock Farming," the National Commission for Women (NCW), Government of India, New Delhi has approved twelve numbers of these training programs for SKUAST-Jammu, with the sole purpose of empowering rural women through training in livestock farming.
The chief guest at the inauguration of this program was Dr. M. S. Bhadwal, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry at R. S. Pura.
Dr. M. S. Bhadwal stated the importance of dairy animals and that they ate a crucial source of food, income, and nutritional security. He believes that by increasing their productivity through scientific management, smallholder dairy farmers can significantly improve their daily lives. In addition to this, he also emphasized the importance of learning the various facets of dairy farming, vermicomposting, making cow dung logs, and milk value in addition to launching their businesses. For increasing the income and socioeconomic standards of farming communities, the production of raw milk is important. This will act as a major source of income and also encourage the farming communities to pursue dairy farming.
Dr. Pranav Kumar, the NCW Project's principal investigator and an assistant professor in the division of veterinary and animal husbandry extension education presented an overview of the training course and claimed that women will dominate the Indian dairy industry soon.
Several delegates including, Dr Sunil Kumar, Convenor cum Professor & Head, Livestock Products Technology, Convenor cum Professor & I/c Head, Division of VAHEE, Dr Kamal Sharma, Dr Anna, Dr Ravneet Kaur were present during the event.
