The world of OTT platforms has introduced India to some wildly creative shows, with Amazon Prime Video leading the path. Shows such as The Family Man, Mirzapur, Panchayat, Made In Heaven came in early on and defined the landscape of storytelling in the Indian web shows. The person behind green lighting and leading these shows is Aparna Purohit, a prominent figure in the Indian entertainment industry.
Aparna currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aamir Khan Productions. Her passion for storytelling has been commendable and widely recognized by audiences.
She has been recognized by Fortune India on the list of Most Powerful Women in 2024 for her instrumental works by taking the OTT platform to regional audiences. She has launched shows such as Haraa, Masti, and Dhootha which resemble rural India and connect with the local audience. Aparna has launched more than 56 originals and 60 direct-toservice films in six languages.

Aparna started her journalism career in 2000 acquiring a degree from Delhi University and completed her Master's from Jamia Millia Islamia in 2002 and later worked in media companies such as Cinestaan Film Company, Mumbai Mantra Media, Sony Entertainment Television, UTV Motion Pictures, and Reliance Entertainment. Ms. Purohit joined Aamir Khan Products as the CEO in May 2024, prior to that, she led Amazon Prime Video as the Head of India & SEA Originals. She joined Amazon Prime in January 2016 as the Head of Creative Development and was promoted to lead as Head of India in April 2019. Her role expanded to lead the Southeast Asian market later in November 2022.
Aparna brings a diverse 20 years exciting career journey where she championed authentic, rooted, and diverse narratives, significantly increasing female participation in storytelling both in the front end and back end of the camera and production. She has assisted veteran directors including Aparna Sen, Bharatbala, and Naseeruddin Shah. Her career spans content creation for print media, radio, and ads along with TV and Film production across various genres and languages.

Aparna has led content creation for various media platforms which placed her as an elected member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
