Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has launched the White Revolution 2.0, a program aimed at transforming India's dairy sector. The initiative focuses on four key areas: empowering women dairy farmers, enhancing local milk production, strengthening dairy infrastructure, and boosting dairy exports. The program includes the rollout of RuPay Kisan Credit Cards for farmers and the installation of micro-ATMs at cooperative societies. The initiative is expected to benefit around 13 crore farmers across India.
Shah announced that no panchayat in the country will lack PACS in the coming years, during the release of guidelines for forming and strengthening 2 lakh new multi-purpose Primary Agriculture Credit Societies along with dairy and fishery cooperative societies in villages and panchayats. He mentioned, "Thirty-six lakh women in Gujarat are involved in the dairy sector, and they do total business worth Rs 60,000 crore. This new initiative will focus on empowering women and further strengthening the fight against malnutrition."
White Revolution 2.0 is one of the key initiatives of the 10 initiatives decided by Modi government's third term which is implemented in 100 days. It aims to increase milk procurement by dairy cooperative societies by 50 per cent over five years, providing market access to farmers in uncovered villages and increasing organized sector participation.
According to Amit Shah, India plans to become self-sufficient in the dairy sector by eliminating imports of dairy machinery from the Netherlands and Japan, with full budgetary support for White Revolution 2.0.
