Tokyo Olympics: Indian Women's Hockey Team looses to Argentina, to face Britain for Bronze

The Indian women's hockey team put on a fantastic display of skill and tenacity in their semifinal match against World No. 5 Argentina at the Tokyo Games.
Gurjit Kaur converted a penalty corner to give India the lead early in the semifinal match. In the end, however, Indian women came in second place. Argentina defeated the women's hockey team 1-2.
Argentina held its own and advanced to the finals of the women's hockey event in the showpiece event, despite India's efforts in the fourth and final quarter.
Argentina's captain, Noel Barrionuevo, scored her second goal today to put Argentina ahead of India in the women's hockey semi-final match.
The team led by Rani Rampal will now face Great Britain in the bronze medal match on Friday. Argentina, on the other hand, will face the Netherlands in the gold medal match on the same day.
Argentina held its own and advanced to the finals of the women's hockey event in the showpiece event, despite India's efforts in the fourth and final quarter.
Earlier in the day, the Indian women's hockey team made history at Oi Hockey Stadium — North Pitch — by defeating Australia 1-0 to advance to the Olympic semi-finals for the first time.
Argentina defeated Germany 3-0 earlier in the day in the quarter-finals.
India played seven matches there, the first two of which were drawn 2-2 and 1-1 by the Argentine youth team. India then played two matches against Argentina's B team, losing both 1-2 and 2-3.
India played three games against Argentina's senior team, drawing 1-1 and losing 0-2 and 2-3.
India captain Rani stated on Tuesday that the win over Australia is a distant memory and that the team's focus is now on the remaining two games in the competition.
“We made history by just reaching the semifinals and now we are looking forward to the semifinals, because we don't want to just finish here," Rani had said. “In this tournament there's two more games left for winning medals," she said.
