Dalmia Bharat Group, a conglomerate company dealing with cement and sugar has been implementing programs and initiatives to empower women in honor of International Day of Rural Women.
Dalmia stated in a press release that around 18,000 women have received essential skill training and access to vital resources for sustainable livelihood development through the establishment of self-help groups (SHGs). Dalmia has been organizing a number of initiatives that aim to provide training to women in both the farming and non-farming sectors in collaboration with various organizations, such as micro-enterprise development, handicraft development, and others.
The statement also mentions that these training and skill development activities are conducted in communities that are settled around their regions of operations across 12 states in India. These initiatives aim to empower rural women by upskilling them, diversifying their income sources, and providing access to formal credit systems.
Dalmia Bharat has also organized skill development and enterprise training in livestock rearing, mushroom cultivation, Agri Nutri gardens, beauty services, tailoring, and more in the areas of Assam and Meghalaya.
Dalmia added that over 1,200 women in the region have achieved financial independence with monthly earnings ranging from Rs 4,000 to Rs 10,000.
Ashok K Gupta, the Foundation CEO of Dalmia Bharat Foundation states that rural women play an important role in the food and economic security of developing countries but still face marginalization including limited land ownership, higher illiteracy rates, and unequal earnings when compared to men. Dalmia Bharat is committed to empowering these rural women by implementing holistic programs that increase their income while allowing them to manage household responsibilities.
The skill development training includes various fields like income generation by sewing, food processing, and producing products such as jams, squash, pickles, and jellies from local products, goat rearing, Agri-Nutri garden workshops, healthcare and entrepreneurship, etc.
