President Murmu Stresses Need for Good Education Over Ranking

On Monday, President Draupadi Murmu underlined the need to consider why there isn't a single Indian educational institution in the top 50 worldwide, despite India having the oldest knowledge tradition in the world. The President emphasized the importance of good education over rankings at IIT Kharagpur's 69th convocation, stating that a good ranking attracts students and faculty globally and enhances the country's reputation.

She mentions that the world's oldest knowledge tradition has no educational institution among the top 50, highlighting the importance of ranking for good education, attracting students and faculty, and enhancing the country's reputation. In addition to this, she urged IIT Kharagpur to innovate and implement technology, aligning with the government's internationalization and global collaboration policy and commended the institute's revolutionary efforts.

IIT Kharagpur is forming alliances with global institutions to establish international recognition and promote social justice, emphasizing the right to technology for all. President Murmu advocates for technology rights for social justice and equality, citing digital payment systems and IITs' global reputation for simplifying life and benefiting small traders.

IIT Kharagpur, India's first incubation center for talent and technology, has nurtured great talents for 73 years, contributing phenomenally to the country's development and emerging as a major world power.

India's Amrit Kaal aims to create a golden age through technology, with computerization, solar energy, genomics, and large language models potentially revolutionizing social life. Technology's role in improving living standards and treating incurable diseases is crucial for a better world.

President Draupadi Murmu urged students to develop a growth-oriented mindset and gratitude towards society. She urged more women to study science and technology as this year's convocation drew 21 per cent of women degree holders. IIT Kharagpur aims to be among the top 10 global higher educational institutions by 2030.

Over 3,200 students were awarded degrees during the convocation, highlighting the institute's initiatives in national mission projects and collaborations with institutions like ISRO, DRDO, and ONGC.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Sanskrit scholar Mahamahopadhyay Bhadreshdas Swami, electrical engineering entrepreneur Ravinder Nath Khanna, and entrepreneur Ajit Jain received DSc Honoris Causa and Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Prof Ramchandra Prabhakar Gokam.
