The "Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY)", a significant sub-scheme under the PM Matsya Sampada, has received approval from the Union Cabinet. With investments worth more than Rs 6,000 crore, this initiative seeks to regulate the fishing industry and assist small businesses throughout all states and union territories between 2023–2026.
Additionally, the provision of jobs and secure work settings is the primary means of empowering women through this program. It is expected to create 1.7 lakh new jobs, with 75,000 of those opportunities going specifically to women. Furthermore, the program seeks to generate 5.4 lakh new jobs inside the value chain of micro and small businesses.
The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) is a flagship program designed to drive sustainable and focused development of India's fishing industry. The implementation of this project is expected to cost Rs. 20,050 crores in a duration of 5 years, from FY 2020–21 to FY 2024–25, encompassing all states and union territories. This programme, which is an element of the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Package, aims to close infrastructure deficiencies in the fisheries industry and provide a comprehensive framework. Utilize the potential of the fishing industry in a way that is equitable, responsible, inclusive, and sustainable. Increase fish yield and productivity by using land and water resources wisely and expanding, intensifying, diversifying, and producing more fish.
