Margaret Alva Chosen as the Opposition's Vice President Candidate

In an official announcement, the Opposition parties have zeroes down on Margaret Alva as their Vice President candidate. Alva is a former Union Minister and former governor of Rajasthan.
“Tomorrow Margaret will file her nomination papers,” said Congress MP, Abdul Khaleque to reporters on Monday. He also urged all MPs to support her candidature.
The decision to pick Margaret as the Vice President candidatewas taken at a meeting held on Sunday. The meeting was held at the residence of NCP supremoSharadPawar and had in attendance leaders of 17 opposition parties. TMC leader MamtaBannerjee and AAP head ArvindKejriwal were conspicuous in their absence. At the end of the two hour long meeting Pawarannounced the candidature of Margaret. He also urged Trinamool Congress and the AamAdmi Party to support the decision; if they do so, then Margaret will be representing19 parties in total.
Coming from humble beginnings Margaret hails from Mangalore. She has a BA and law degree. Margaret was also a practicing lawyer for a brief period of time.
According to an announcement by The Election Commission, the elections for the 16th Vice President of India will be held on August 6, 2022.
