Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group company, has released a brand film celebrating International Women's Day, featuring India's first All-Women Underground Mine Rescue Team. The team, consisting of seven women leaders, is breaking the stereotypes in the male-dominated mining industry. They have undergone rigorous training in mine emergencies, first aid, emergency response, kinds of fires, extinguishing methods, mine gases, technician tests, and how to handle surface and underground mine problems. With the motto of #TransformingTheWorkplace, this first all-women underground mine rescue team is being launched to foster safety leaders and promote a more diverse, inclusive, and progressive workplace in the mining industry.
More than 600 women work at Hindustan Zinc out of which over 200 women working are engineers, and they all hold significant positions in a variety of capacities. The organization is dedicated to prompting an inclusive and varied work environment where 24 per cent of women are on the Executive Committee and 21.8 per cent of women are in executive roles. This all-female underground mine rescue team has been formed with the aim of creating safety leaders for the future.
Hindustan Zinc aims at gender diversity that goes beyond hiring practices, emphasizing the development of a positive work atmosphere that enables female employees to succeed in blue-collar jobs, which are still comparatively not so common for women in society. The film can be watched on the official YouTube handle of the firm.
