Harini Amarasuriya becomes First Female Prime Minister of Sri Lanka

In a recent announcement, Sri Lanka has finally declared the first female prime minister. Harini Amarasuriya has taken up the position of New prime minister, carving her name in the history for becoming the first woman to hold office since 2000 after Sirimavo Bandaranaike.
She is a Rights Activist along with being a university lecturer who has made significant contributions for social justice and education in Sri Lanka. The Country has shown a progressive leadership with her appointment as the PM and National People’s Power (NPP) has proved a step for breakthrough for women in politics.
Moreover, after Sirimavo took office in 1994, Harini become the first female to hold the position of a Prime Minister in Sri Lanka. She is the third woman too, to serve in this capacity in the country’s history. As PM, she will have several crucial portfolios that includes Justice, Education, Labour, Industries, Science and Technology, Health, and Investment.
After Harini carved her name in the history, she is now a beacon of inspiration for all the Sri Lankan women as well as all the females across the world. They will get motivated with this decision of the country.
