The 50 Best Restaurants in the World The first of this year's pre-announced awards was awarded by 2023, which named Elena Reygadas, owner and chef of Rosetta in Mexico City, as The World's Best Female Chef 2023. Since she was named the Best Female Chef in Latin America in 2014, Elena has made a name for herself as one of the most important figures in Mexican gastronomy.
She recently launched a scholarship programme in Mexico that prioritises women with the aim of encouraging more gender parity in kitchens. She is a fierce advocate for sustainable agriculture and Mexican biodiversity. To encourage equal opportunities and strengthen the leadership of Mexican women in the culinary industry, the "Beca Elena Reygadas" scholarship is made available to Mexican students who have been accepted to culinary schools.
Rosetta made its debut in 2010 in Mexico City's Roma neighbourhood with an appealing menu that placed a focus on modernising traditional Mexican food. Due to its focus on seasonal, regional dishes purchased from small farmers, it was placed No. 60 on The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list and No. 37 on the list of the 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America for 2022.

Elena comments on her prize by saying; "I am really thankful and honoured to have been chosen by individuals I greatly like. Cooking is a shared activity. And thus, in my opinion, this honour belonged to my team and, in a little manner, to all the Mexican women who have committed their lives to cooking for countless generations."
The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2023 awards event in Valencia, which will take place at the Les Arts opera house on June 20, will include a number of accolades, the first of which is The World's Best Female Chef 2023 award.
