Women need to be provided more opportunities and their primary challenges need to be addressed, as stated by The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi during an event which was commemorating 30 years of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry - Ladies Organization (FICCI - FLO). This statement was presented upon Chief Minister M K Stalin's dream of turning Tamil Nadu into a trillion-dollar economy by 2030.
Kanimozhi further stated about the high maternal mortality rates in India that they need to continue to highlight the urgent need for focused attention on women's health. The lack of women in Parliament is another major issue that needs to be immediately cured. This disparity in workplaces hinders women's active participation in influencing policies that impact their lives.
Raji Raju, Chairperson of FICCI-FLO Chennai stated that organizations like FLO actively work to address these problems faced by women and promote inclusivity and gender equality in recognition of these barriers. To empower women, some major initiatives have been planned by the FLO this year which would include campaigns to improve professional success skills, STEM education, financial literacy, health camps, and holistic well-being awareness drives.
MP Kanimozhi further stated about a senior member of Parliament who undermined the abilities of women leaders by saying that 'women should be fighting in a war' during the women's reservation bill conference. Groups like FLO can promote mentorship and guidance initiatives that will encourage leadership development skills at all levels. Following this, a health entrepreneur, G S K Velu declared about setting up a cancer screening program in Toothukudi this year.
