Meera Velankar and Tasneem Mohsin, two women on a mission, are cycling 3,800 kilometres from East to West to raise awareness. The importance of cycling, the environment, and fitness, especially during the colder months, is the driving force behind this difficult journey. The Bengaluru mothers believe that their trek would encourage others to take on the task.
They passed Rajasthan on Saturday and are currently on their way to Gujarat. Meera, 45, shared her 700-kilometer riding journey, which included stops in Bharatpur, Jaipur, Ajmer, Pali, and Mount Abu. “Middle-aged women are too tied up and scared to taking up challenges, I hope we are able to encourage them to break out of their shell and experience the fun of outdoor activities. Even if they set out to walk, jog or cycle would be just great.”
Tasneem, 42, added, “Our aim is to cycle almost 150-175km each day. We encountered high temperature variations in Rajasthan. Cold mornings and hot afternoons made it extremely challenging”.
The bicycle trip began on January 27 in Kibithoo, Arunachal Pradesh, and has travelled around 2,800 kilometres thus far.
Meera responded, "It's challenging," when asked how difficult it is, “Managing temperature variations in a short span is tough. Cycling in mountains in freezing cold to high temperatures in Gujarat is a challenge.”
Tasneem underlined, “It is scary at times when for a stretched period we don’t see anything on the roads. This happened in Arunachal, as the hilly regions are completely deserted,”
