An awareness session was organized among the women of Bokpara Ranchi Line near Doomdooma by the ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), a development wing of the Salesians of Don Bosco of Dimapur Province. Since International Women's Day fell on a working day this year, and the tea garden's women workers were unable to participate, the day was commemorated on weekends at the convenience of local women to inspire everyone and provide meaningful involvement.
Rishma Urang, the president of the All Adivasi Women Power of Assam's Doomdooma Regional Committee (AAWPA), Subod Kujur, AIDA's Project Officer, Augustus Kujur, AIDA's Project Manager, Ignatius Ekka, a lawyer, Rt. Rev. Fr. Nestor Guria, Doomdooma Catholic Church's rector and social worker, all spoke as invited guests. Various facets of women's empowerment were emphasised by the speakers.
Augustus Kujur, Project Manager, AIDA, Dimapur, spoke about the protection of women's rights enshrined in our Constitution. He also encouraged women to use their voices as a weapon against exploitation and tragedies. Women competed in a variety of events, including a running race, an obstacle course, a magical chair, and a tug-of-war, with the winners receiving prizes.
In Assam, AIDA has implemented education programmes in 31 tea gardens. Through numerous seminars and events, the programme aims to not only provide high-quality education to children, but also to empower communities to take an active role in their children's education.
