The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has made the decision to start a nationwide campaign to make sure that women receive their fair share of their father's property.
According to Dr SQR Ilyas who is the spokesperson for the AIMPLB, many attendees at a recent meeting felt that even though Islamic law grants daughters a fixed share of their father's property, this share is mostly avoided and not given to them. The widow from the husband's estate and the mother from the son's estate also become ignored and not provided their share.
The AIMPLB is being pushed to implement some changes amid the discussions on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which aims to implement a uniform set of personal laws for all Indian citizens.
Dr. Ilyas further mentioned that AIMPLB has also acknowledged the number of social issues that are faced by women in the nation, which includes female foeticide, dowry, the issue of late marriages, physical and mental assaults on that affect their chastity and dignity, exploitation at the workplaces, domestic violence, etc.
