Could you describe your previous industry background and how it contributes to your leadership abilities now? How has your past work experience helped you become a more effective leader today?

My leadership development has been a process strongly influenced by my career journey. Over the years, I have strategically made career decisions and transitions to further my knowledge, skills and connections, while always conscious of aligning my interests and pursuits with my strengths. Having said that, where I may have certain knowledge gaps, I am not hesitant to take risks to learn and try new things. I believe this can-do mindset has greatly contributed to my current position and I can confidently say that I have experience in nearly every pillar within the Sports Entertainment industry in various capacities. The wide spectrum of my experience allows me to understand the industry from different perspectives as well as push new boundaries in the realm of Sports Entertainment.

In a startup environment, this position is akin to a Chief of Everything Officer, providing support to both the CEO and the organization as a whole. From actively driving brainstorming sessions to getting hands-on with operational tasks, to engaging in business development and sales, as well as overseeing strategic planning and communications, each day brings a new focus and challenge. As a person who enjoys ideation, I thoroughly enjoy this role as it allows me to transform my stream of ideas into concrete and achievable actions.

What are your primary areas of focus when it comes to driving growth for RAXworld? Share your formula for success as a business leader.

My main responsibilities involve establishing the vision and business objectives for RAXworld and implementing plans to support the growth and progress of the company. Currently, my key areas of focus are strategizing and developing commercially viable products that can be swiftly brought to market, as well as fostering a strong and connected community for RAXworld. These aspects keep me highly engaged and enthusiastic about the future.

As a people manager, my success stems from being an attentive listener and demonstrating compassion and empathy without compromising on my principles. Leading by example is another key factor —I strive to be the first one to generate ideas, actively encourage opinions from others, and foster a collaborative environment.

What are some of the most significant hurdles you face in your current position? How do you address these challenges?

The Web3 landscape is constantly evolving and adapting, regardless of whether it involves crypto, NFTs, or blockchain. Its dynamic nature necessitates the ability to swiftly pivot, be flexible, and embrace experimentation without giving up. Persistence, often undervalued, is a crucial strength in this domain. To remain receptive to fresh ideas and insights, I actively engage with individuals who share similar interests and work in the industry. I prioritize networking and collaboration, leveraging these connections to exchange resources, knowledge, and time, with the ultimate goal of achieving collective success.

Describe the three most significant professional milestones you have accomplished throughout your career journey.

The first milestone is transforming my childhood passion as an armchair sports enthusiast to establishing a career in Sports Media that spans over two decades. Now, I frequently find myself being the first port of call for international media companies interested to grow in Asia, looking to me to develop comprehensive business plans, communication and sales strategies.

The second milestone is being able to mentor and launch the careers of other young talents, just as how others have done for me before. Many of my former bosses have become close friends who continue to play instrumental roles in my professional journey. Likewise, I have had the privilege of leading others and helping them grow towards their career aspirations. Touching lives, fostering genuine friendships outside of the workplace – I rank these among my greatest achievements alongside the tangible business successes.

The third milestone is forsaking the comforts and security of corporate life and diving into the uncertain roller coaster world of start-ups. The sense of purpose, passion and dynamism inherent in startup environments are invigorating and humbling all at once. These experiences have provided invaluable lessons and insights that money cannot buy. While not all of these ventures have flourished, the knowledge gained has been immeasurable. I am currently involved in several start-ups holding both executive and advisory positions, which continue to contribute to my growth and learning.
