Could you please share your educational journey with us? What inspired you to pursue a career in architecture?

Throughout my schooling, I attended various schools due to my father's transferable job. Excelling in mathematics and physics, I initially considered engineering for my further studies, but a deeper contemplation led me to choose architecture instead. The idea of blending creativity with engineering intrigued me. After completing my education, I started my journey as a freelance architect alongside my husband in Delhi. It was a tough beginning as the market was competitive, but we persevered and took on small interior projects. Eventually, our work expanded to include landscape and architectural solutions. I found a passion for sustainable architecture during my research and implementation of naturally air cooled solutions for educational campus in a hot and humid climate. Since then, I have approached each project with an innovative mindset, never sticking to a stereotypical portfolio. Currently, I am thrilled to be working on an exciting project of Urban landscape—a botanical garden that will serve as a green lung in a densely populated area, somewhat akin to Central Park in New York. These kinds of projects resonate deeply with my interests and values.

What major challenges do architects face in the current business climate? How do you tackle and overcome them?

Throughout our journey as architects, we've encountered several challenges that shaped our approach to the profession. In the beginning, we faced the struggle of establishing ourselves and adapting to technological advancements. Back then, I was passionate about computerizing architecture and delved into CAD despite the initial learning curve. The internet's emergence brought another wave of changes, urging us to embrace email and 3D softwares to keep pace with the younger generation. As time went on, the industry witnessed increased competition and reduced rates, prompting us to seek efficiency without compromising on quality. To address these demands, we actively explore software solutions for smoother coordination with consultants and AI tools while recognizing the invaluable creativity that humans bring to design. Our commitment to excellence remains unwavering as we continuously evolve and adapt to stay at the forefront of the field.
