We run a clinic that is more than just a dental implantology and Otorhinolaryngology clinic. Smile DePerfecte at Attingal Trivandrum is a healthcare establishment where patients come to receive not only medical care but also a listening ear and a compassionate heart. I’m passionate about interacting with patients, understanding their needs, and taking a holistic approach to healthcare. And strive to provide high-quality healthcare in a cost-effective manner, ensuring that our patients receive standardized care that they can afford. Through my interactions with patients, I aim to uncover various underlying issues and take a holistic approach to their healthcare. By addressing these issues and treating the whole person, I can provide more effective care.
I and my husband believe in working as a team incorporating clinical and surgical aspects in our respective fields like dental, ENT, maxillofacial surgery, implantology and aesthetic surgery. Our shared understanding and ability to support each other through the challenges of our work give us the upper hand. We can divide responsibilities in a way that complements our strengths and allows us to focus on the areas we excel in. Together, we can navigate complex cases and ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
What are the various challenges you encounter as a healthcare practitioner?
Not only have I faced challenges in the initial stages of my career, but as a medical surgeon, I am aware that the surgical field is largely dominated by men. It can often be difficult for doctors to find a balance between their personal and professional responsibilities, especially as a woman.
"Dr. Binsa Strongly Believes that There is no force More powerful Than a woman Determined to Rise"
Despite the challenges, I believe that more women should pursue careers in their chosen fields. Women are often emotionally and mentally stronger, and if we can build our expertise and get smarter in our chosen fields, we can become excellent leaders. As a woman surgeon, I am no stranger to long working hours and a steep learning curve, but I am committed to giving my best to my patients and colleagues while balancing my personal responsibilities.
Please tell me about the bright side of being a woman surgeon and entrepreneur.
As a surgeon, I find the most rewarding aspect of my work is the difference I make in the lives of my patients. But specifically as a woman surgeon, I feel that female patients and children often feel more comfortable with me, allowing me to connect with them on a deeper level and provide the empathy and understanding they need during difficult procedures. I strive to make each visit a positive experience, with laughter and a sense of ease. As an entrepreneur I believe that if you are passionate enough about your vision you will easily overcome every obstacle that comes your way. Managing your healthcare centre successfully is possible only through sheer determination and hardwork. You have to multitask your clinical and surgical work with staff management as well as the financial aspects of running a medical establishment.
What’s your success mantra? Any message for fellow women?
I have always stayed focused on my dreams and taken every tiny step that propels me toward my goal. My parents Abdul Basheer and Fathima Basheer have strived hard to raise me without any gender disparity. My kids Aafreen & Armaan and my siblings are constantly my cheerleaders. In my field as a surgeon, every surgery is a new experience and I am constantly learning. As women, we face many obstacles, but we must tackle them head-on and encourage and support each other along the way. I believe in cheering on other women and pursuing our interests, even in challenging fields like medicine. It's not easy, especially with kids, but we have to make up our minds to say that our interests and goals are important too. Also, take care of yourself, your health, your hobbies and your passions. I read and travel to unwind. My passion is classical dance which has taken a halt but now I am happy to have been practicing it of late, as and when I find the time.
