Welfare for Empowerment: 8 State-led Schemes Offering Financial Aid to Rural Women

Jharkhand: Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana: Rs 2,500 per month
Jharkhand's Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana, launched in August 2023, provides monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to women aged 21 to 50 with a family income of up to Rs 3 lakh. The scheme, initially providing Rs 1,000, has been increased to Rs 2,500 since December 2024.
The Jharkhand government transferred Rs 1,415.44 crores to 56.61 lakh women beneficiaries in January 2025, with each receiving an installment of Rs 2,500 for December 2024.
Assam: Orunodoi Scheme: Rs 1,250 per month
The Orunodoi scheme, launched on October 2, 2020, is a poverty alleviation program in Assam, that provides financial assistance to underprivileged households. Initially offering Rs 830 per month, it has since increased to Rs 1,250 per month.
The scheme is implemented through direct benefit transfer and targets women as primary caretakers, disbursing the amount on the 10th of every month. The Assam government has launched the third edition of its poverty alleviation scheme 'Orunodoi 3.0' that covers 37.2 lakh beneficiaries for direct cash transfer.
Chhattisgarh: Mahtari Vandan Yojana: Rs 1,000 per month
Chhattisgarh's Mahtari Vandan Yojana offers financial assistance of Rs. 1000 per month to eligible married women, requiring their own bank account and Aadhaar card. The scheme aims to maintain women's self-reliance, improve their children's health and nutritional status, promote financial independence, and encourage women's role in family decision-making.
Eligible women must be permanent residents of Chhattisgarh, aged 21 and above, and have an annual family income of less than ₹1 lakh.
Karnataka: Gruha Lakshmi Scheme: Rs 2,000 per month
The Karnataka government has launched the 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme in Mysuru, providing monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 to 1.1 crore women who are household heads. This ambitious scheme aims to increase the economic empowerment of women in the state.
The financial assistance is paid through DBT to registered eligible beneficiaries and has been in operation since August 2023. The scheme also benefits Gender Minorities.
