Welfare for Empowerment: 8 State-led Schemes Offering Financial Aid to Rural Women

Maharashtra: Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme: Rs 1,500 per month

The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme is a social welfare initiative in Maharashtra introduced by Minister Ajit Pawar, aimed at supporting women's empowerment and financial independence. Eligible women between the ages of 21 to 60 will receive Rs 1,500 per month as financial assistance.

Launched in June 2024, the scheme offers financial assistance to women with annual incomes below Rs 2.5 lakh. So far, 2.47 crore women in Maharashtra have received Rs 7,500 in five months. The scheme offers free education, self-reliance, and women's development with a budget of 46 thousand crores available.

Tamil Nadu: Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam: Rs 1,000 per month

The Tamil Nadu government has launched the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, a monthly financial assistance program for women. The scheme, which aims to empower the marginalized community women in the state, provides Rs.1,000 monthly to around 1.06 crore women in Tamil Nadu.

The government received 1.63 crore applications and released the funds through Direct Benefit Transfer for September. As of December 2024, 1,14,65,525 women received a monthly aid of Rs 1000. The scheme aims to improve the living standards of Tamil Nadu citizens.

Madhya Pradesh: Mukhyamantri Ladli Bahna Yojana: Rs 1,000 per month

The Madhya Pradesh government announced the implementation of the "Mukhya Mantri Ladli Behna Yojana" on January 28, 2023, aiming to improve women's health, nutrition, and economic self-reliance.

The scheme, initially launched in March 2023, offers monthly financial assistance of Rs 1000 to women with a family income under Rs 2.5 lakh. The program targets married women aged 21 to 60, including divorced, widowed, and abandoned women, and has been allocated Rs 18,984 crore for FY25.

West Bengal: Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme: Rs 1,000 to General & Rs 1,200 to SC/ST

The Lakshmir Bhandar scheme in West Bengal, introduced in February 2021, provides financial assistance to women aged 25 to 60. The scheme initially provided Rs 500 per month for the general category and Rs 1,000 for SC/ST families. However, later these amounts were increased to Rs 1000 and Rs 1200 respectively.

With coverage for 2.11 crore beneficiaries, the state spent Rs 10,101.87 crore on the scheme in 2023-24 and increased its annual budget to Rs 12,000 crore.
