9 SEPTEMBER2024Sumita Dawra, Secretary for Labour & Employment, emphasized the need for increased female workforce participation and improved employee welfare to drive inclusive growth in India during an industry interaction organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Employers' Federation of India (EFI). This includes simplifying labour laws, encouraging more women, expanding social security, and improving overall welfare measures. She emphasized the importance of decriminalizing labour laws and ensuring social security and labour welfare in driving inclusive growth.Ms Sumita further highlighted the need for women's participation in the workforce to boost productivity and innovation in order to bridge gender disparities in employment for a more equitable and inclusive economy. Around 200 industry members attended the session.CII mentioned that "Sumita Dawra highlighted the Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business reforms introduced by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, GoI. She emphasized on decriminalization of labour laws, increasing female workforce participation, social security, labour welfare that will drive inclusive growth in India."Dawra laid stress on an improving employment trend, with Periodic Labour Dorce Survey (PLFS) and KLEMS data showing a net subscriber increase of over 6 crore since September 2017. Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Schemes were announced in the 2024-25 budget to enhance job creation and formalization.
