8 AUGUST2024IN FOCUSIN FOCUSThe FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) has trained 22 South African women to fabricate and install solar panels and lights, partnering with Barefoot College in Rajasthan. The training equips women with technical skills for solar panels, home lighting systems, street lights, mini and microgrids, and photovoltaic circuits. The women, now known as 'Solar Mamas,' will return to their communities to contribute to sustainable development and gender equality. The initiative aims to improve energy infrastructure and support sustainable development.FICCI FLO National President Joyshree Das Verma highlights collaborative efforts within the organization, government, and other countries to foster leadership and growth opportunities for women in diverse sectors, including the solar energy sector.Ms. Sudha Shivkumar, the immediate past president of FLO, initiated, conceptualized, and implemented the training program. In August 2023, Sudha led a delegation to South Africa, participating in various events. FLO participated in the BRICS Women's Business Alliance Annual Meeting, BRICS-Africa Trade Conference, and BRICS Business Forum. The South African government sponsored a group of women to receive Solar Mama training at Barefoot College in India, equipping them with technical expertise to harness solar energy. Ms. Sudha emphasized the need for such a program during an interaction with South Africa's Minister of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities. FICCI FLO TRAINS SOUTH AFRICAN WOMEN FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENTINDIA & NEPAL DRIVE VICTORY AT CAVA WOMEN'S NATIONS LEAGUEThe CAVA Women's Nations League's inaugural matches saw India and Nepal secure decisive victories, showcasing exceptional coordination and strategy. Strong local fan support fueled Nepal's victory over Sri Lanka and India's victory over Iran. The league, designed to promote women's sports in the region, continues with more matches, including India facing the Maldives.The sporting event kick started with an exciting opening on 1 August 2024, in Kathmandu, Nepal. Both India and Nepal secured impressive victories. Nepal clinched a straight win of 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) against Sri Lanka, while India defeated Iran 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 25-11). The grand opening ceremony of a women's volleyball league in the region showcased the importance of promoting women's sports. India and Nepal driving victories emerged as strong contenders, setting high standards for the upcoming matches, and showcasing the growing talent and enthusiasm for women's volleyball.The grand opening ceremony, attended by officials including the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Tejulal Chaudhari, and Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, Mr. Tankalal Ghising, marked the start of the matches in Nepal, with over 3,500 fans in attendance. The competition on day 2 will feature Iran facing Sri Lanka at 3 p.m. and India against the Maldives at 5:15 p.m., with hosts Nepal having a rest day.
