Anuja Joshi, Founder of Interflora on How to Inspire Inclusion in the Indian Startup Ecosystem

“Inclusion in the Indian startup ecosystem is something very close to my heart. We're at a juncture where the need for diverse perspectives in businesses, especially from women, is undeniable. It's not just about fairness; it's about enriching our economic landscape with innovative solutions and tapping into wider markets.

From the government's standpoint, crafting policies that offer specific support to women-led startups, such as tax benefits and grants, is crucial. Moreover, allocating a percentage of government funding directly to startups with women in leadership roles along with providing childcare support and launching skill development programs tailored for women would significantly lower the barriers they face.

Business bodies that initiate platforms for networking, mentorship, and sharing resources among women can catalyze immense growth. Recognizing and celebrating the achievements of women entrepreneurs through awards also plays a vital role in increasing visibility and inspiring others.

When we talk about VC firms, the importance of having a diverse investment team cannot be overstated. It's about understanding and appreciating the value that startups led by women bring to the table. Setting up targeted funds for women-led startups and providing mentorship beyond just financial support can make a substantial difference. And, of course, as entrepreneurs ourselves, building a community where we support each other is fundamental. Sharing our journeys, the highs, and the lows, can serve as a beacon for those just starting. It's also about advocacy, pushing for policies and practices that ensure a more inclusive ecosystem.

Inclusion is not a one-time effort; it's a continuous process of learning, adapting, and supporting each other. And I believe, with concerted efforts, we can create a more inclusive, vibrant startup ecosystem in India.”

Anuja’s message to other women-folk across India on the occasion of International Women’s Day-

“On this International Women's Day, I extend my warmest greetings and solidarity to my fellow women across India. Today, we celebrate not just our achievements but also our resilience, our courage, and our unwavering spirit to dream and achieve in the face of myriad challenges.”

She continued, “To the young girls dreaming of their future – dream big. The path to achieving your dreams may not always be smooth, but it's yours to make. Education, perseverance, and belief in oneself are your tools. Use them to carve out a space where you not only belong but shine.”

“To women entrepreneurs, remember, your ventures contribute significantly to our economy and societal progress. Your success stories inspire a new generation of women to break barriers and envision a future without limits. Together, we can create a tapestry of change that future generations will look back on with pride.”
