Every Year, Women’s Day comes as a reminder that women must learn to prioritize themselves. This year, Women Entrepreneurs Review Team asked derma experts to share advice on how women can attain the skin of their dreams and prioritize their health. Let’s hear what Dr. Neha Khuraana, Kiran Bhatt and Dr Ameesha Mahajan have to say.
In today’s busy lives, women’s plate has been fuller than ever. From managing the stresses of professional life to handling the various responsibilities of home, women are handling it all. But amidst all this conundrum, women are falling back in terms of attending to the needs and comforts of their body and skin.
For women, good skin and hair brings self-assurance and confidence. However, the stresses of a busy life adversely impact women’s skin and hair health. Stress, combined with improper nutrition and hydration is the biggest culprit.
However, women have started being cautious about their body and skin health. Healthcare professionals, especially dermatologists are helping women gain awareness about how to achieve healthy skin and hair. A Board-certified Dermatologist, Dr. Neha Khuraana says, “Women’s health is their power!”.
Essential Dos & Don’ts for Busy Women to Maintain Healthy Skin & Hair
Dr. Neha explains about the Do’s and Don’ts and says that skin care doesn’t requires plenty of time, “All they have to put in is consistent daily effort of following a simple skincare routine that is inclusive of face cleansing, moisturization, followed by sunscreen application”.
She also suggests the usage of sulfate free shampoos and consuming wholesome diet “..that is inclusive of good quality protein, omega-3 fats in addition to adequate water consumption. Also, healthy skin and hair need a good night's sleep.”
Cosmetologist Kiran Bhatt, the vice president, Junoesque encourages women to follow a simple yet effective routine in order to achieve good skin and hair health. She says, “Hydration is key. Drinking plenty of water, biotin, and proteins will nourish your skin and hair from within.”
Putting emphasis on the hair health, she remarks, “To prevent hair breakage, switch to satin pillowcases and avoid excessive heat styling or chemical treatments. On the flip side, try to limit sugar and processed
foods, as they can lead to acne and hair fall. Avoid over washing your hair, as it strips away natural oils that are essential for scalp health.”
Nowadays, women seek beauty with good skin and hair and that comes with healthy habits and well-balanced diet. To make women understand the importance of nutrition, Cosmetic Dermatologist, Dr Ameesha Mahajan, Founder, Eden Skin Clinic says, “Never follow a crash diet or very-low-calorie-diet (VLCD) as nutrient deficiencies predispose dull skin and hair shedding.”
Essential Health Markers for Women's Well-being
Explaining about the key health markers, Kiran says,“Women should take a proactive approach to health by keeping track of key markers. Hormonal balance is crucial, so monitoring thyroid levels (TSH, T3, T4) and menstrual regularity can help detect underlying issues like PCOS or thyroid dysfunction early. Iron and vitamin deficiencies, particularly Vitamin D and B12, can lead to fatigue, hair fall, and weakened immunity, so regular testing is important. Bone health should also be a priority, with calcium and bone density checks, especially after 30. Additionally, heart health cannot be ignored, regular monitoring of cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar helps in preventing lifestyle diseases. A healthy gut also plays a vital role in overall well-being, so keeping an eye on digestion and gut-related symptoms is essential.”
Adding another crucial point, Dr. Neha says, “Insulin fasting levels and blood sugar levels should be checked as high levels may lead to breakouts and hair thinning.” She sounds caution against living with high stress levels that can raise the levels of cortisol, triggering skin issues such as eczema, rosacea, psoriasis etc.
This Women’s Day Prioritize Self-Care Without Guilt
The load of effort that Indian women put into making their lives better is beyond imagination. They have to navigate through societal norms and restrictions in order to achieve something for their own. To honour women’s endeavors, Dr. Kiran recognizes women as being ‘Hardworking enthusiasts’, and suggests that they “don’t forget to care for yourself, since you are the backbone of your family, workplace, and society. Your health is your power, prioritize it without guilt. A balanced diet, proper sleep, and regular exercise aren’t luxuries; they are necessities. Learn to say no, set boundaries, and take time for self-care.”
Further, Dr Ameesha adds, “Dear women, self-care is not selfish. In the race to meet deadlines and care for others, don’t neglect your own health. Your skin, hair, and overall well-being reflect what’s happening inside your body. A balanced diet, good sleep, and stress management are as important as skincare products. Prioritize yourself as you deserve it. Happy Women’s Day!”
This Woman’s Day, let’s celebrate and applaud all those girls and women who have been amazing moms, wives and sisters while encouraging them to take good care of their skin and hair.
Improvements from within will show up in the outer beauty! Happy Women’s Day!
