TATA WPL 2025: Top 5 Emerging Indian Players to Watch Out For

Cricket fever is on in India and the third edition of WPL is just slated to begin from Feb 14. The tournament is all set to offer nail-biting competitions and extraordinary performances on the ground. Team WER has curated five phenomenal emerging Indian women cricketers who are expected to change the dynamics of the tournament.

The TATA Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025, India's third women's T20 cricket tournament, is set to be held from 14 February 2025 to March 15, 2025. The competition features five teams, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and UP Warriorz.

The matches will be held across four cities - Vadodara (BCA Stadium), Bengaluru (M. Chinnaswamy Stadium), Lucknow (Ekana Cricket Stadium), and Mumbai Indians (Brabourne Stadium).

The competition will be played in a round-robin format and knockout stage. The top team will advance to the final, while the second and third-placed teams face eliminators.

After the successful completion of two previous editions of TATA WPL, the third season is expected to be power-packed as it will feature new and emerging women players along with well-known stars.

With the 2025 edition of WPL just around the corner, let’s have a look at some exceptional players whose performance we are most looking forward to. These emerging players have showcased their talent throughout the year on the field and secured their places in their respective teams for WPL 2025.

Simran Shaikh - Gujarat Giants

Simran Shaikh, a Mumbai-based cricketer, was the biggest buy of the WPL 2025 auction, with Gujarat Giants securing her services for INR 1.9 crore. Shaikh, an emerging Indian cricketer, has made a name for herself with her aggressive style, high strike rate, and agile fielding. She has played for the Mumbai Under-19 and Mumbai Senior teams, winning numerous trophies. Simran has also excelled in domestic tournaments like the Senior Women's T20 Trophy and President's Cup T20 Women's League. She was a part of the UP Warriorz squad in WPL 2023. However, she managed to score 29 runs in 9 matches with a strike rate of 60.41 during the inaugural edition.

Simran, who went unsold in the 2024 auction, rediscovered form in Mumbai's local leagues, and the U-19 women's team has acquired a seat in GG as the costliest player in the 2025 auction.

Prema Rawat - Royal Challengers Bangalore

Prema Rawat, a rising Indian women's cricket talent, is known for her all-round abilities and leg-spin bowling. She was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 1.2 core during the WPL 2025 auction. Prema played a crucial role in the Uttarakhand Premier League 2024, leading Mussorie Thunders to victory and earning Player of the Match in the final. She is known for her control and crucial wicket-taking abilities.

Prema has bagged 29 wickets across four competitions, including an unbeaten 47 against Odisha in the Senior Women's One-Day Trophy. She also made a significant impact with the bat, taking 19 catches and executing multiple run-outs, making her an asset for RCB.

G Kamalini - Mumbai Indians

G Kamalini, a promising young Indian cricketer, has been a standout performer for the Tamil Nadu women's cricket team. She was the second-highest run-scorer in the U-19 Women's T20 Trophy, scoring 311 runs in eight innings. Kamalini's versatility as a left-handed batter, leg-spinner, and wicketkeeper makes her a valuable asset for the team. She was bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 1.6 crore during the WPL 2025 auction.

Kamalini's impressive performance in the U-19 tri-series final against South Africa scoring 79 runs, and her 29-ball 44 in a decisive run chase against Pakistan secured her spot in the Indian squad for the inaugural U-19 Asia Cup 2024.

Nandini Kashyap - Delhi Capitals

Nandini Kashyap, a rising Indian women's cricket talent, has shown great potential as a wicketkeeper-batter. She received her maiden call-up for the India Women's team in December 2024. As a right-handed batter and wicketkeeper, she has consistently performed well across formats, including the Senior Women's T20 Trophy 2023 and the Senior Women's One-Day Trophy 2023. She was Uttarakhand team's top scorer with overall 248 runs in seven innings including a century with average of 41 during  Senior Women's T20 Trophy 2023.

Showcasing great performances, Nandini has been acquired by Delhi Capitals during WPL 2025 auction for a base price of Rs 10 lakh.

Shweta Sehrawat - UP Warriorz

Shweta Sehrawat, India's U19 World Cup title-winner, has gained valuable cricketing experiences since joining the 2024 Women's Premier League (WPL). She gained experience in senior India women's set-up and was selected for the Asia Cup. As the domestic season approaches, she aims to win a tournament and become the top scorer.

Shweta made her WPL debut in 2023 and scored 142 runs playing 15 matches with a strike rate of 97.26. UPW acquired her for INR 40 lakhs in the WPL 2025 auction retaining her due to good performance.
