With the advent of influencer marketing and reels, trends are changing every day. Every single day we can see something new coming up in skincare or some new super ingredient being introduced. But it’s not always safe to try out everything that’s out there on the internet as it can take a major toll on the skin. Now as we’re getting back to work and as things are starting to seem ‘normal’ our skin requirements will also change.

Dr Noopur Jain, founder and consultant dermatologist at Skinzest, shares some innovative and effective skincare trends to look out for in the year 2022.

Less is always more!
Slapping on tons of creams and moisturizers is never good for the skin. Addressing the concerns of the skin and then adding products to the skincare routine accordingly is the best way to go. Too much for anything good cannot necessarily be good, similarly, too much skincare can also do damage to the skin. Go for products that are less harsh and focus more on nourishing the skin and keeping the skin healthy. Making sure the right products are used for everyone’s exclusive skin types is very important to keep the skin in its best form. Using the wrong products can heavily damage the skin so listen to your skin and nourish it accordingly.

Anti-ageing products
Individuals have started to realize the importance of anti-ageing products and it’s role in skincare. Waiting to see wrinkles to start using anti-ageing products can be a very big mistake. With the stress and tension in today’s time, fine lines and wrinkles can start to show up earlier than expected. Sleep deprivation can also result in early signs of aging and let’s be honest here none of us are getting enough sleep! Therefore supporting the skin with the right ingredients and products during times like that is crucial to help keep the skin young and glowy.

Facial tools
From gua sha stone to the jade roller, facial tools are popular like never before and it is going to be a major hit next year as well. More and more people are experimenting with things at home and these cool looking facial tools are a fascination to many. With the added benefits of using such tools as increased blood circulation, facial tools are going to pave their way into skincare even further. It can also help reduce puffiness around the eyes and face area after waking up in the morning. Such tools can be chilled and used in the morning, it can be highly refreshing as well beneficial for the skin.

Waterless products
When you check behind the box of skincare products most of it could be ready water or ‘aqua’. The reason is simply that it is affordable and available in abundance. It is not right that water-based products are more hydrating rather it doesn’t help much to keep the skin glowy and hydrated. Water-based products in fact strip the natural oil out of the skin. When there is less water in a product the actual ingredients are used in larger quantities which are filled with vitamins and antioxidants. Not only are waterless products more effective for the skin, but it is also an eco-friendly option as it reduces the amount of packaging used, thereby reducing the shipping weights.

Blue light protection
Studies have shown that blue light from electronic devices can have a major impact on the skin. It can cause several changes to skin cells like speeding up the aging process, fine lines, wrinkles and shrinkage. While SPF protects from the sun’s harmful UV rays, the skin needs protection from blue light as well. Thanks to the pandemic most of us are exposed to blue light more than the sunlight. Sunscreens that contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide can be helpful along with antioxidants such as vitamin C and E.
