Fostering Scientific Temper More Crucial Than Ever Today
In a nation like India, where diverse beliefs and traditions coexist, fostering a scientific temper is more crucial than ever. It is essential for developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the innovation needed for India's growth in STEM-related fields. I strongly believe that mandatory education is key for every woman to achieve independence and self-reliance. It can also pave the way for leadership roles and opportunities abroad, especially with the rapidly changing tech landscape. Cultivating a scientific mindset from a young age is highly important. By incorporating scientific thought into the curriculum early on, we can instill a habit of questioning, analyzing, and seeking evidence. Additionally, popular media, cultural depictions and real-world examples of science can significantly contribute to fostering a scientific temper outside the classroom.
Your STEM Inspiration
Growing up, I was inspired by women trailblazers in science and technology who defied societal norms to make ground-breaking contributions. Figures like Kamala Sohonie and Kalpana Chawla showed me that determination, passion, and curiosity can pave the way for success in STEM. Globally, my inspiration has been Ginni Rometty, a former chairwoman, president, and CEO of IBM. Their journeys reinforced my belief that women belong in every sphere of innovation, and today, I hope to inspire the next generation of young women to dream big and lead boldly in science and technology.
