The TREAD scheme is a government initiative in India aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among women. It provides financial assistance, training, and support to women entrepreneurs, especially those without bank credit. The scheme also aims to create sustainable employment opportunities by developing their entrepreneurial capabilities and technical skills. The government offers a 30 per cent grant to a project cost, with the remaining 70 per cent funded by lending institutions. Eligible NGOs, including Entrepreneurship Development Institutes, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, NISIET, and NGOs, conduct training programs for women empowerment. Women beneficiaries receive up to Rs. 1 lakh per program, with a minimum training program of one month duration that comprises 20 participants in each batch.
