Indian Women Athletes to Compete in Paris Olympics 2024
By: WE Staff
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, also known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, is a historic event blending tradition, modernity, sustainability, and inclusivity. It promises to celebrate sports, culture, and human spirit, fostering unity and global collaboration.
The Olympic Games have a long history of gender exclusion, dating back to ancient Greece, where women were not allowed to compete. In 1900, women first participated in tennis and golf, The first female Olympic champion was Charlotte Cooper. The 1982 Amsterdam Olympics allowed women to compete in track and field events, but debates arose about physical capabilities and societal roles. The 1972 US Title IX mandated equal opportunities for women in sports, increasing women's events in new sports. Modern achievements include the Atlanta Olympics, the 2012 London Olympics, and the 2022 Tokyo Olympics. The Games achieved nearly gender parity, with 49 per cent of participants being women, and new mixed-gender events were introduced to promote inclusivity and equality.
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics is all set to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The games will feature new sports, including breakdancing, mixed-gender events, and competitions in surfing, skateboarding, and sport climbing. Paris 2024 aims to be the most sustainable Olympics, using existing or temporary venues to reduce environmental impact. Opening and Closing ceremonies will be held at the Stade de France. Other venues include Prac des Princes for football, the Bercy Arena for basketball and gymnastics, and the Roland Garros for tennis. Additionally, venues like the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-Elysees will also host various events. Advanced technology will be employed for ticketing, security, and athlete performance analysis.
