By: WE Staff

India has created history at the 2024 Paralympics by winning a record number of 29 medals at the games held in Paris. India's female para-athletes were equal contributors to the medal tally. These women, though differently abled, demonstrated resilience, skill, and determination. Building on their success at the Tokyo 2020 Games, Indian women have become powerful symbols of empowerment in sports. They competed in para-badminton, para-shooting, and para-table tennis, with government and sports authorities providing world-class training and exposure.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games marked a significant milestone for the global Paralympic movement. The event was hosted in iconic venues like the Stade de France, the Paris La Defense Arena, and Versailles. The games featured 22 sports, including swimming, wheelchair basketball, para-cycling, wheelchair rugby, goalball, sitting volleyball, para-badminton, and para taekwondo. Over 4,400 athletes from 180 countries participated setting new benchmarks for inclusivity and accessibility with sustainability.

The Indian contingent’s 29-medal tally included seven gold, nine silver, and thirteen bronze medals, surpassing the 19 medals from the Tokyo 2020 Games. With 84 para-athletes, India competed across 12 disciplines, including three new sports: para-cycling, para-rowing, and blind judo, held in the French capital from 28 August to 8 September. This marks India's 50-medal mark in Paralympic history, showcasing impressive performances. This year 10 Women athletes have brought laurels to India’s medal tally.
