6 Prominent Women Leaders Who Attended G20 Summit 2023 in India

The recently concluded G20 Summit 2023 had the global spotlight shining on India. Also known as the Group of Twenty Summit, it is an annual international forum for government leaders from 19 countries and the European Union to congregate and discuss matters of concern.
This year, the 18th G20 meeting was hosted by India. Held in the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 9 September to 10 September 2023, the G20 Summit India was presided over by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Post last year’s Bali Summit, a ceremony was held during which the G20 presidency was passed from the Indonesian President Joko Widodo to the Indian Prime Minister Modi. Eminent delegates were present during the G20 Summit in New Delhi. Through one year of Ministerial meetings, Engagement Groups and Working Groups, the World leaders from 19 different countries became a part of this Summit. It is the first time that India is holding the G20 Summit under the theme 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'.
The event saw the biggest names from global politics arriving in India to be a part of the summit. The G20 Summit India also saw its fair share of women leaders be a part of the dialogue and festivities. Here is a list of the female delegates and leaders who participated in the G20 Summit 2023.
Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh PM
Sheikh Hasina is a well-known politician from Bangladesh who has served as the country's Prime Minister for the longest period. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh is her father. She has made significant contributions to the country's struggle for independence from Pakistan in 1971. Sheikh Hasina holds the position of Bangladeshi Prime Minister where Bangladesh has developed significantly economically and socially under her leadership.
She arrived in Delhi on Friday to commemorate the G20 Summit and was received with a warm welcome by the Ministers.
Giorgia Meloni, Italy PM
Italian politician Giorgia Meloni became the country's first female Prime Minister. She has served in the Chamber of Deputies since 2006. She has also served as the party leader for the Brothers of Italy (Fdl) and has presided over the European Conservatives and Reformists Party. Giorgia attended the G20 Summit 2023 which was notable. Despite only having one in four female ministers in her coalition, she rose to power, demonstrating her innovative leadership.
Ursula von der Leyen, President, European Commission
The German Politician and Medical professional, Ursula Gertrud presided over the European Commission as its 13th President. She has previously worked for the German Federal Government, holding various posts in Angela Merkel's cabinet, most recently that of defence Minister.
She was also a part of the G20 Summit where Ursula emphasized the growing significance of the digital sphere in determining the future. She highlighted the crucial roles played by digital Infrastructure and artificial intelligence (AI), while also pointing out the risks and opportunities that come with AI.
Kristalina Ivanova Georgieva-Kinova, Managing Director, IMF
Kristalina Ivanova Georgieva-Kinova, an economist from Bulgaria has held the position of IMF's 12th managing director. She has also served as the World Bank Group's Chief Executive from 2017 to 2019 and as its Acting President as well.
She marked her presence at the G20 presidency by India where she expressed that significant progress that can be made when nations work together to address the global issues. President Banga and herself have emphasized in the joint statement that the IMF is doing its part, and it's improving the cooperation with the World Bank in important areas. She looks forward to making the International ties more stronger to create a more prosperous economy.
Raquel Buenrostro Sanchez, Minister of Economy, United Mexican States
Minister of Economy of the United Mexican States, Raquel Buenrosto Sanchez was also present at the G20 Summit in New Delhi. She expressed her views on collaborating with India to advance healthcare, agro-food, and aerospace by India's cooperation. She had described India as one of the most important countries in world geopolitics. Mexico and India, both have emerging economies and share similar priorities for and constraints on socioeconomic development. They have convergent worldviews as well as democratic, secular, and pluralistic systems. Both countries comprise economic and technological developments.
Akshata Narayana Murty, UK First Lady
Indian heiress, entrepreneur, fashion designer, and venture capitalist Akshata Narayan Murty was also present at the G20 Summit along with her husband, Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister and head of the Conservative Party. Akshata and Rishi are ranked as the 222nd and 830th richest individuals in Britain, respectively.
