In an exclusive interview with Women Entrepreneur Magazine, Shireen Kapoor acquaints more about Ace Law Barristers & Solicitors as well as her professional journey.

Take us through your early educational journey and prior Industry experience. What drew you towards the legal profession?

I completed my schooling in Delhi, India. When I was in elementary school, I suppose I knew I wanted to become a lawyer. And I've always been the type of kid who, if I set my mind to anything, I'll accomplish it regardless of the obstacles. After moving to Canada, I studied law and went on to become a Barrister and Solicitor. Over the years, I've counseled businesses and self-employed individuals on Canadian immigration restrictions, company sale and acquisition, corporate record-keeping, and more. In addition, I've also defended clients in human rights and refugee cases.

Tell us about your key areas of expertise and practice as a Layer. What is your leadership philosophy?

I believe I am capable of communicating the most difficult problems to our clients in a simple manner because I understand that they are not from this area and do not understand the language that we attorneys do. Another thing I do is that I understand that immigration is a big decision and I'm transparent with the clients about the process and laws. Being in the legal profession, I believe people place a lot of trust in you, and as the phrase goes, with great power comes great responsibility, therefore I believe it is our responsibility to be transparent with our clients.

My leadership philosophy is to treat everyone on an equal footing. Everyone, in my opinion, brings a distinct set of perspectives to the table, which I believe is indeed very crucial for the company's growth. My colleagues and I discuss ideas and choose the ones that everyone agrees on, and I believe it is the cornerstone for our company's rapid development. My partners are also a source of strength for me.

What has been your professional experience as a lawyer thus far? What steps do you take to keep yourself up to date with the industry's periodic evolutions?

I'd say the road has been fortunately smooth, and I'd like to express my gratitude to those who have put their trust in me, particularly my family and close friends. Of course, I faced my own set of hurdles, such as being a woman traveling to a new nation on her own and starting a business, but what is a journey without some difficulty?

Staying up to date on current trends is critical for anyone working in this sector, or any field for that matter. As a result, I read a lot. You'll find me reading about immigration laws and policies all across the world, not only in Canada.

Amidst a busy professional life, how do you strike a balance between your work and home life? Are there any activities or hobbies that you like to indulge in when time permits?

I agree that balancing work and life can be challenging at times, but I'm fortunate to be married to the company's co-partner, who is very understanding, and I believe that's the key. There will be times when you are unable to maintain your balance, but it will be easier if those around you support you. I believe that now is the time to hustle and build the life I want for myself and my family; it will take some additional effort on my part, but I am more than prepared to put in the effort. Looking forward to a brighter future!! They are long terms that we need to remember and be focused on, but one cannot work 24 hours a day, so I have activities that I do to keep myself occupied. I enjoy reading and listening to music, which I believe helps to keep my mind fresh. I also socialize with my friends and like to beautify my home. So whenever I have free time, I make it a point to engage in one of these activities.

As a successful lawyer with vast experience, what advice would you present to young women and girls who aspire to follow in your footsteps and foray into the legal profession?

As we can see these days, females are reaching new heights and not falling behind, which makes me very proud. I'm also pleased to see families encouraging their daughters to accomplish great things. My advice to young women entering the legal profession is that it will be challenging, but do not give up. Concentrate on the subject of your choice, and don't leave a single word unlearnt. You have the ability to accomplish whatever you desire. And, no matter how successful you get, remember to serve your clients with the same respect, politeness, and transparency you'll go a long way.
