As the landscape of education continues to change, the need for dynamic leadership from a visionary leader that can adapt the institutions to be at par with the top schools at all times is increasing. Dr. Paramjit Kaur, Principal of BCM Arya International School is one such dynamic and resilient leader who dreams big and fulfills all the goals she sets for her institution. Through a hands-on approach, and an optimistic outlook, she is leading her school to become the top educational institution in the country.

Women Entrepreneur magazine recently engaged in a one-on-one interaction with Paramjit. Here's the highlight from the same.

What are some important features of your expertise as an educator?

 I believe that a successful leader must have optimistic outlook and a firm determination and spirit to overcome challenges.Optimism, in my opinion, increases one's bravery, fortitude, strength, and perseverance. In order to do this, interpersonal skills are essential. I became a strong leader because of my capacity to identify my teachers' strengths, channel them in the correct directions, and infuse them with a burst of energy and enthusiasm. So,the key to become successful is adaptability and resilience.

Take us through your early educational journey and prior industry experience. What are the various responsibilities you shoulder as the Principal of BCM Arya International School?

What are your primary focus areas in terms of leading the school?Coming from an Army family I was blessed to grow up in a multicultural environment. Growing up with the values of discipline, organization, planning, and management, along with enriching experiences gained from living in different parts of the country made me into the resilient, adaptable, and meticulous person that I am today. I am a keen learner and avid reader and this has led me to overcome various hurdles and complete my Doctorate in Education while serving as a Principal. Among my many responsibilities, my primary roles require management of resources, the delegation of responsibilities, implementation of effective teacher training programs, setting a vision for the school, handling students,ensuring the smooth functioning of the school, and building trust among the various stakeholders.

Tell us about the tools and techniques that you leverage as an educator in order to facilitate effective learning for your students.

Educators need to be adaptable to the rapidly changing teaching strategies prevalent today to facilitate effective learning. As such, our teachers are empowered to exercise judgement in determining the ideal strategy for teaching any topic. To further keep up with the digital advancements, our teachers are focusing on professional development. The school sets out the curriculum to be followed, which is well-rounded to ensure an overall enriching educational experience for the child. We include Audio-Visual Tools, and ensure on the all-round development of the child by focusing on social interactions and physical education.

What are some of the most significant milestones that you have achieved throughout your professional journey?

 The progress that the school has made since I donned the robes of the Principal has been a significant milestone. BCM has achieved many accolades including `Guinness World Records'  for the `Largest Kathak'.The school ranked amongst Top 10 Green Schools of India as audited  by CSE, International School Award- (Three times) by British Council, UK., ASIA Education Award 2019-( Asia's Best Co-ed CBSE School Category), to name a few. During the Pandemic, we earned various accolades Rated as `5- star School' of India-2021 and 2020 by CED Foundation, Ranked No.1 School in India-2021 for `Digital Learning Advancement' by Education Today, FPA National School Award-2021, among several others.

Drawing from your experience, what would your advice be to young women and girls who also aspire to become business leaders and entrepreneurs in the future?

My advice would be to believe in yourself. The journey will be full of pitfalls, but the courage  to stand up and keep fighting will bring success. A successful entrepreneur needs to have a vision and an unending desire to achieve that. Don't settle for anything less, and keep striving for your goals by setting daily targets, meticulously planning and prioritizing and chasing your passion. `Perseverance is the Key.

Dr. Paramjit is an experienced educator and principal. Hailing from an army background, she had the seeds of discipline, and leadership has sown into her from a young age. Her love for learning and education led her to pursue a career in the field. Through sheer determination and hard work, she completed her doctorate while working as a principal. Today, she is the head of the BCM Arya International School, and in a short span, has led the institution to achieve various accolades.
