Clare Holst: Empowering Talent Acquisition In A Changing Market
Clare Holst
Founder, Hyrd Consulting
The rise of women leaders in recruitment industry is transforming the landscape. Women leaders are not only challenging stereotypes but are also demonstrating how empathy, coupled with commercial acumen, can create a powerful force. One such leader is Clare Holst, the Founder of Hyrd Consulting. Clare’s career journey began in Australia, where she worked in a small, high-performance team in the recruitment industry. A pivotal moment came early in her career, under the mentorship of a female recruitment leader who inspired her to believe in the potential of women in leadership roles. Clare absorbed the lessons of empathy and commercial strategy, realizing how these qualities could empower women to excel in any industry.
In 2017, Clare relocated to the Middle East, joining a large technology outsourcing firm in the UAE. This role expanded her expertise across the GCC, particularly in Saudi Arabia, while collaborating with a Centre of Excellence in India. The focus on financial performance and operational efficiency sharpened her skills, but Clare soon realized that the region lacked a consultative, relationship-driven approach to recruitment. This led her to establish Hyrd Consulting, a firm that prioritizes long-term partnerships over the transactional nature of traditional recruitment.
Founding Hyrd Consulting was a bold move, but Clare was driven by the entrepreneurial spirit that pushed her to explore new business models. She faced steep challenges but remained resilient, recognizing that while talent and expertise are crucial, learning how to lead a business requires adaptability and perseverance. In this exclusive interview, Clare shares her insights on leadership, entrepreneurship, and the future of talent acquisition.
What inspired the creation of Hyrd Consulting, and what is its core focus?
Founding Hyrd Consulting was both a natural and challenging decision. I had always envisioned running my own business, but taking that leap—as a female founder, a non-Arabic speaker in an Arab country, and amid the COVID-19 pandemic—came with immense pressure. Despite these challenges, I continue to be incredibly proud of that decision.
In 2020, after losing my father, his 'have a go' attitude deeply resonated with me. He believed that life is short and should be lived to the fullest, which gave me the clarity and courage to finally pursue my vision and establish Hyrd Consulting. His philosophy reminded me that even the most uncertain times can lead to the most rewarding outcomes.
Hyrd Consulting is built on the belief that people are a company’s greatest asset. Our mission is to deeply understand a business's strategic and cultural needs, and to help attract and retain the right talent to fulfill those needs, & build long term partnerships. We see ourselves as Career Curators and Happiness Ambassadors, ensuring a win-win relationship between employers and employees.
While we initially focused on technology recruitment, Hyrd has grown over the past three years to include expertise in FinTech, Startups, Venture Capital, and Management Consulting.
Can you share the key roles and responsibilities you manage as the founder of Hyrd Consulting, and what are your main focus areas for driving the company's growth?
As the founder of Hyrd Consulting, I juggle multiple roles, often simultaneously. My responsibilities span across all areas of the business, from managing the P&L to overseeing client acquisition and retention. Because our happiness depends on our least satisfied client and our success on our weakest team member, I take a handson approach, actively problem-solving daily to keep the company agile and cost-efficient.
A key part of my role involves recognizing when and where I need support. I’m fortunate to have an exceptional Finance Manager and Recruitment Manager, both of whom are dedicated to driving the business forward with a focus on quality, integrity, and client satisfaction.
Client acquisition and repeat business are major growth drivers for Hyrd Consulting. By consistently learning from our existing clients, refining our approach, and adapting to their evolving needs, we aim to build long-term partnerships. This focus on continuous improvement helps us attract like-minded customers who value a consultative, relationship-driven approach to recruitment.

Can you highlight the most significant professional milestones you’ve achieved in your career? Additionally, what principles or mantras have guided your success over the years?
While I believe my most significant professional milestones are still ahead, I am proud of a few key achievements so far. One of the first was relocating from Australia to the Middle East, successfully navigating both the personal and professional challenges that came with such a big move. Leaving behind a job, country, and team I loved was tough, but stepping out of my comfort zone opened up a world of new opportunities.
Starting Hyrd Consulting as a female entrepreneur stands as my most significant achievement to date. Expanding the business across the Middle East, particularly in Saudi Arabia, and entering global markets like the USA and Europe has given us a broader perspective. This growth has diversified our risks and opportunities, providing a strategic advantage. My success mantras have always been: 'Activity breeds activity'- consistent effort brings results, and 'Time is what you make of it'- your timeline is determined by how you choose to manage it.
How do you envision the recruitment landscape in Asia evolving in the future? Which industry trends do you think will have the most significant impact in the near term?
I foresee a greater stability in the recruitment landscape across Asia, particularly among expats who are increasingly pursuing longer-term opportunities rather than traditional, transient roles. This change will help create a stronger, locally-based knowledge pool and a more dependable talent base.
Key trends likely to shape the future of recruitment include the integration of technology to optimize workplace processes. This shift isn't about replacing individuals but rather enhancing efficiency, maximizing talent, and using technology as a catalyst for transformation. Tools such as AI, automation, and data analytics will streamline operations, allowing companies to concentrate more on human potential.
Additionally, we can expect a rise in contracting and freelancing opportunities. As the workforce stabilizes, employment models will become more flexible. The emphasis on permanent roles may lessen, creating more avenues for individuals to work with companies on a freelance or contract basis, providing both employees and employers with greater adaptability.
