In conversation with Dr. Megha Bhatnagar, Founder and Clinical Physiotherapist, Bounce Back Clinic.

What are some important features about your expertise as a Physiotherapist that you want us to highlight through the article?

Prior to the start of my entrepreneurial journey, I found some gaps in the health care industry with the standards of physical rehabilitation. I always felt that every person has a different reaction to the same problem and an individual session is the only way to give justice to your patient. This resulted in me conceiving Bounce Back in 2016 with the concept of one-on-one approach with hands on treatment along with gradual progression of exercises, which I always believe gives far better results than our traditional method of treatment

What motivated you to venture into the healthcare sector and specialize in physiotherapy?

I grew up in BPCL colony, Chembur, Mumbai. We had an easy access to lots of sports and extra-curricular activities. There I loved playing different sports especially Badminton & Swimming and that helped me realise I always wanted to be close to sports. Injuries were regular in sports and very little was known about rehabilitation then. During my educational and sports journey, I stumbled upon the concept of physiotherapy and instantly fell in love with it. I knew I wanted to be in the medical field, so I decided to marry the two together and get into physiotherapy.

I started out with my Bachelors in Physiotherapy from Pravara Medical College which helped me lay a foundation initially regarding physiotherapy. I wanted to follow my dream of being a sports physiotherapist, so I went on further to do my Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and Sports science from Norwegian University. I was fortunate to be the only Physiotherapist chosen from India to pursue my 2-year Master’s degree on a full scholarship funded by the European Union. It covered my travel, visa, stay and tuition fee. It was a dream come true.

“I continued to upgrade myself with years of practice to help bring revolution in the health care industry”

I continued to upgrade myself thereby and I am currently certified in manual therapy, Mulligan technique, kinesiology taping, dry needling, osteopathy, craniosacral techniques, Chapman’s reflex, clinical & video gait analysis and orthotic customisation. I have a special interest in foot and ankle biomechanics, and I create awareness amongst patients and fellow physiotherapists regarding proper foot care and shoe selection. I have also conducted some workshops for physiotherapists to educate and bring about a systematic approach towards lower limb musculoskeletal disorders.

What are some of the most challenging aspects of your role and how do you overcome them?

With years of practice, I had mastered observational clinical gait (walking) analysis, however, people always challenged/questioned my skill. This pushed me to find out about more concrete ways to do the same. So finally, I went on to introduce a computerised software-based gait analysis to support my observational analysis. Now, patients have a more evidence-based analysis report. We can guide patients with appropriate shoes and insoles as per their need with a good backing.

With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic what were the different challenges that you had to face? How did you overcome them?

Just before Covid-19 struck in March 2020, I conceived around the same time. I realised at that point I could not risk myself and my team and followed the government directives accordingly.

During this time, I decided that I would have sessions online and a lot of my patients although sceptical decided to give it a try. We did video consultations and took up a software which allowed us to make customised exercise program which our patients could easily access through a mobile application.

After the government gave certain relaxations and after discussing the same with my staff, I decided to open the clinic with a lot of caution and limited hours.
