Top 10 Women Leaders in Startups - 2022
Economies all over the world are looking for gender diversity; this trend is more visible in business field. A number of new startups are headed by women. There has been a tremendous increase in the women representing the boardrooms. Moreover, there has been another major visible change, that is, there has been an increase in the women owned businesses in the country. Earlier also women owned businesses persisted in the contry. But most of them were small roadside shops or other SMEs that were microenterprises and self-financed. Most of the women were engaged in business to earn bread for their family. There was a time when people were unable to think of women running a business which is making huge turnover. But over time, things have turned out topsy-curvy. Today, women represent 14 percent of entrepreneurs in India and 15 percent of Indian unicorns have female founder.
E-Commerce sector accounts for the highest share of women representation, about 43 percent, in the founders club. 20.37 percent of women in India are MSME owners and since MSMEs are backbone of any economy, their contribution to economy is inevitable. According to survey of Boston Consulting Group, startups founded or co-founded by women generate 10 percent more cumulative revenue over a five-year period. According to McKinsey Global, India can potentially add $700 billion to global GDP by increasing women's participation in the labour force. Surveys show that women lead businesses are a great impetus to country's economy. India has 432 million working-age women and 13.5 15.7 million women-owned businesses that provide direct employment to 2227 million people.
