Top 10 Women Leaders in Qatar - 2022

Qatar is one of the wealthiest countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita, due to high oil and gas extraction. The country has an economic score of 67.7, making its economy 44th freest in the Economic Index. Qatar is ranked 3rd among 14 countries in the Middle East and North Africa region, and its overall score is above the regional and world averages. The country which was a British protectorate, gained freedom only in the year 1971, but its massive reserves of oil and natural gas helped it to be in the elegant state it is today. There is no individual income tax or domestic corporate tax in the country. Foreign corporations operating in Qatar are subject to a flat 10 percent corporate rate.

Women in Qatar have right to vote, run municipal elections and participate freely in all parts of public and social life. Qatari society is engaged in constant balancing act between the traditional and modern. Labour force participation rates of Qatari women are above the world average and among the highest in the Arab World. In Qatar, women have their own gatherings and parties, and mixing of both genders is not allowed. Qatari women give a lot of importance to education and financial independence. Most of the Qatari women are working in public sector. In business, the higher paying jobs typically go to men, and Qatar's finance industry is still male dominated. In 2001, Qatar passed the Civil Service Act and Order No. 13 of the Council of Ministers, thereby creating a legal framework protecting of women's rights in the workforce. Another law was passed in 2002 which allowed women retirement benefits as well as granting monetary benefits to widows.
