India has become the prime destination for logistic service providers all over the world. The demand for logistics services in India has been largely driven by the remarkable growth of the economy. For next few years, the industry is expected to witness 9-10 percent growth. This growth is expected to gain greater momentum due to the exponential growth of the Indian economy. The booming buying capacity of middle and upper middle segment of the population has scaled new heights. FMCC and electronic products are the major products contributing to the logistics market growth of the country.

Supply chain industry is the pivotal component and backbone of any economy. Poor and underdeveloped infrastructure is the main reason preventing the growth of logistic sector in India. A well-structured and efficient supply chain infrastructure helps to minimize manufacturing costs, enhances the ease of doing business, boosts customer experience and satisfaction, and most importantly, accelerates rural and urban consumption growth driven by improved market accessibility. Proper developed infrastructure and the ability to adapt & make optimal use of technology could drive the growth of the sector.

The supply and logistics sector is predominantly a male dominated sector. However this is changing slowly, Women in supply chain management totalled about 47 percent of the labour force in 2016, but only 29 percent of the manufacturing workforce, according to research by Deloitte in collaboration with The Manufacturing Institute and APICS. More and more companies are hiring women in this sector as researches have proved that diversity improves profitability and ability to innovate.
