Top 10 Women Leaders In Infrastructure & Construction - 2023

Women In Construction & Infrastructure Are Building Future

Importance of Construction and Infrastructure: Attractive construction of the infrastructure attracts many inward investors for business deals. Well constructed infrastructure creates a healthy environment to work in, thereby increasing productivity and flexibility of the labour force. Construction is a vital industry, creating buildings and spaces that connect communities, providing jobs, and improving society. The economy needs reliable infrastructure to connect supply chains and efficiently move goods and services across borders. Infrastructure connects households across metropolitan areas to higher quality opportunities for employment, healthcare and education.

Role of Women in Construction and Infra: The number of women engaged in other technical and managerial roles (architects, civil engineers, supervisors) stood at just 1.4 per cent. Out of this, less than 2 per cent reach leadership positions. In India, 47.6 per cent of licensed architects are women, with a gender pay gap of 15 per cent in the field. Women make up around 14 Percentage of construction industry professionals and this number is only set to rise with more and more women in construction and engineering jobs. Misconceptions about gender-specific roles are gradually diminishing with a growing number of women choosing a career in construction and engineering.

Rise of Women in Construction and Infra Industry: The construction industry has long been perceived as a male-dominated field. However, in recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of women working in the industry. Women are breaking barriers and proving their worth in the construction industry. Even though the construction industry is clear on the need for more women to join, the industry has remained male-dominated. It is common to find only one woman on a construction site with many men. This makes her feel outnumbered and may cause the woman to enclose her potential due to the fear of outshining the men.
