Qatari Women Shifting the State’s Economic Status

It is no secret that today the world is witnessing women leaders actively shaping dynamic teams across industries. They are not only leading companies, organizations but the corporate world of diverse geographies, and Qatar is no different. Qatar, a peninsular Arab country is known for its eclectic mix of museums, architecture and hidden historic sites. From the spectacular skyscrapers and unique architecture of its capital city, Doha, to desert safaris, shopping excursions and Arabic culture revealing itself on street corners. Holding various positions for both man and women, today Qatar presents opportunity to the new-age workforce to come forward and hone and leverage their corporate skills with comparatively less gender bias. Thus become a carrier hub for expat women around the globe, and today, more and more women take the top spots across organizations rapidly in Qatar which is undoubtedly heartening to see.

Qatari Women Workforce: Equipped with robust technical knowhow and apt skills, women leaders are now reaching the pinnacle of entrepreneurial space around the globe and women from Qatar are no different. In 2001, Qatar passed the Civil Service Act and Order No.13 of the Council of Ministers, to foster a legal framework to safeguard women's rights in the workforce. Another law was passed in 2002 which allowed women retirement benefits as well as granting monetary benefits to widows According to 2014 statistics, there are upwards of 32,000 Qatari women who are employed. As a result, there was an increase of over 7,000 from three years earlier in 2011. Out of the whole employed women workforce, one fourth of the Qatari women work in the construction industry, 27 percent work in the information and technology industry and 45 percent are employed in social and natural sciences and most Qatari women work in the public sector. Despite Qatar's female labor force participation rate being the highest in the Gulf Cooperation Council and higher than the world average (as of 2013).
