Top 10 Women In IP Copy Right & Trademark - 2023
IP- Protect Ideas, Protect Future
The Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in India majorly encompasses trademarks, copyrights, patents, trade secrets and design. Each category of intellectual property covers a different group of properties and work which makes it necessary to choose the right category in order to safeguard the work and the business property. Also, it provides the creator an exclusive right over the use of his/her creation of mind for a limited time. Traditionally, IP is categorized as industrial property and copyright, wherein the former is used in the context of patents, industrial designs and trademarks, and the latter is used in the context of protecting literary creations, artistic works, musical works and more. The general rule is that copyright lasts for 60 years, however in the case of original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works the 60-year period is counted from the year following the death of the author.
Woman of Strength knows it is in the Journey where she will become strong
Unfortunately, women are still under-represented in the practice of intellectual property rights but fortunately, the gap is narrowing. It was also common for works by women to be broadcast under a pseudonym. Whether they were press cartoons, novels or inventions. Many women owned businesses are small and most of the time the women who run them don’t have the required capital to pursue trademark registration, meanwhile some entrepreneurs fail to protect their intellectual property because they find the process complicated and the law difficult to understand. Then there are those who do not understand the value in protecting their brand through federal trademark registration. Amid all, the truth is although women have come a long way in trademark registration there are still obstacles to overcome to ensure that all female business owners are able to protect their brands.
