Top 10 Women in Finance - 2022

The whole world is still facing challenges in building an equitable and inclusive workplace. However the statistics of at least some of the sectors are satisfying and is exactly showing the progress women have been able to bring into their lives. According to an IMF study, increasing women's participation in financial services as users, providers, and regulators has benefits beyond reducing gender imbalance. In addition to closing gender gap and bringing equality, it brings stability to the banking system and boosts economic growth. Also, more women are entering equity trading by educating themselves through mock trading practices and video tutorials. The financial inclusion and awareness of digital transaction among women have contributed highly to the economy of the country.

Women in industries like finance have been able to make a huge impact over the last few decades.  This can be traced by listing the number of women bankers, financiers, and investors who have made it to the top of their field and are holding some of the most powerful positions in the industry. However, the participation of women in the stock exchange market is much low, and lack of role models is considered as one of the factor for this low representation. The stock market remains male-dominated and women have a long way to go.

The studies show that women prefer lower financial risks compared to men due to fear, risk and uncertainty. Women are conditioned to save in trustworthy chit funds, FDs and POS rather than risking speculating and gambling, which are considered masculine. In many families, even though women have their own income, their care taker roles and other burdens prevent them from focusing on stock trading and equity market.
