Business process outsourcing (BPO) is a type of outsourcing in which a third-party service provider is hired to perform one or more of a company's business processes. Back office and front office are the two main types of services in BPO. Internal corporate procedures such as billing and purchasing are examples of back-office services and front-office services, such as marketing and technical assistance, are provided to the contracting company's clients.

Today, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is a household term, with most urban Indian households employing one or more family members in a BPO. This industry has contributed significantly to the country's economy and is a thriving sector. Women employees seek a company that provides a well-balanced work-life balance. BPO firms have recognised this need and are utilising it to recruit and retain female employees. A number of BPO firms believe in promoting female leadership. As a result, the sector provides various venues and platforms for female employees to flourish and be groom for the next level of leadership.

Nasscom and PwC conducted a survey of Nasscom member companies to get a perspective on how the IT-BPM industry is strengthening its current practices and embracing new emerging trends. According to their research, one out of every three employees joining India's $143 billion IT-BPO market is a woman. Safety is the priority while IT-BPO sector, with its 24/7 nature that requires employees to work at night. BPO companies are enforcing stronger policies to ensure the safety of their female workers.
