Creating ripples throughout the Asia- Pacific region, women have brought down gender barriers to be the pioneering examples in their fields. From entrepreneurs and journalists to political leaders and researchers, women are grabbing the global spotlight.
Women today are not only seen to be breaking age-old patriarchal doctrines but also raiding male bastions as well. Not only in India, women across the Asia are shining in different sectors and all other services that have traditionally been performed by men. It’s been nearly two years since Covid-19 erupted and the world’s business leaders had to come to grips with the new reality. Some have struggled to keep their companies afloat andyet have adapted and thrived, seizing opportunities in the midst of many challenges. These successful womendemonstrate that gender and age can’t stand in the way of success and they represent a wide range of industries from biotech, finTech and edTech to more traditional sectors such as retail, logistics and law. Each has a track record of success either running a company with sizable revenues or founding a startup valued at over $1 billion.
Women play a key role in innovative economic development and business expansion in Asia.Female entrepreneurs contribute substantially to economic growth in Asia. Female entrepreneurial activity differs substantially across Asia. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2019/2020 report, on average, Asian women are less likely than their male counterparts to start a business. As such, only 9.3 percent of women in China engage in entrepreneurship, while the rate of female entrepreneurship is 8.7percent in India and 12.2percent in Korea. However, in some Asian countries, such as Thailand and Malaysia, rates are much higher (19.3percent and 20.1percent, respectively), indicating a much higher level of interest in entrepreneurship among women. In Vietnam and Indonesia, the rate of female entrepreneurial activity even exceeds that of men.
