Zomato has taken a notable step towards supporting its female delivery partners by introducing a comprehensive maternity insurance plan. This initiative is aimed at providing financial security and assurance to female delivery partners during pregnancy, including childbirth and maternity complications.
The maternity insurance coverage offered by Zomato includes up to Rs 25,000 for normal delivery, up to Rs 40,000 for cesarean sections, and up to Rs 40,000 in cases of maternity complications such as miscarriage and abortion. This valuable coverage ensures that female delivery partners and their families have peace of mind regarding maternity-related expenses.
Rakesh Ranjan, the CEO of Food Delivery at Zomato, expressed the company's commitment to the well-being and financial security of its partners. He stated, "By introducing comprehensive maternity insurance for gig workers, we are looking at providing extra support during our partners’ journey to motherhood, reinforcing our dedication to their welfare and financial security, thereby helping them meet their needs every step of the way."
Zomato has partnered with ACKO, a digital insurance provider, to offer this important maternity insurance to its female delivery partners. The coverage extends to those partners who have completed 1000 deliveries on the Zomato platform and have been active during the 60 days leading up to the maternity insurance request.
Importantly, this comprehensive maternity insurance covers normal and cesarean deliveries for up to two children and provides support in cases of maternity complications, including miscarriage and abortion. This initiative highlights Zomato's commitment to ensuring that its female delivery partners actively participate in and benefit from the company's inclusive policies and initiatives.
With the introduction of this maternity insurance plan, Zomato not only acknowledges the invaluable contributions of its female delivery partners but also addresses a crucial aspect of their overall well-being. This move sets a positive example for other gig economy platforms to consider similar measures to support and protect their workforce.
